ATSU cares for Valley residents at Community Health & Wellness Day
Posted: June 16, 2011East valley residents had the opportunity to receive free health screenings and services when ATSU and Chandler CARE Center provided free health screenings and services to East Valley residents during the fourth annual Free Community Health & Wellness Day at the Chandler CARE Center in February.
Services included general medical exams, hearing and vision screenings, oral health exams, balance assessments, and vital health recordings. All services were provided by ATSU students and supervised by faculty from ATSU-ASDOH, ATSU-ASHS, and ATSU-SOMA.
SOMA and physician assistant students provided 70 medical exams, and ASDOH students provided oral hygiene instruction for 100 people, dental screenings for 98 patients, and fluoride varnish to 88 patients, and made 11 sports mouth guards.
“Interacting with the families,” said first-year SOMA student Jared Ross, “reminds all of us why we chose to pursue this profession — to help people and to impact people’s lives.”
