Murphy’s Macho Molars makes debut
Posted: May 23, 2013ATSU-ASDOH D2 students Ivette Jorge, Nez Mutlu, Andrew Serrano, and Ryan Smith recently visited Murphy School District in Phoenix to provide dental education and treatment to students through an unique event called Murphy’s Macho Molars.
The ATSU-ASDOH student-driven event aimed at increasing oral health knowledge, like demonstrating proper brushing techniques, to elementary-aged school children. Jorge, Mutlu, Serrano and Smith also provided an opportunity for these young patients to receive fluoride varnish treatment, a coating that is applied to teeth to prevent cavities.
Murphy’s Macho Molars took place at the Murphy Children’s Clinic, a no-cost, school-based, comprehensive dental home for the children who live in the Murphy School District.
The event is part of ATSU-ASDOH’s Dentistry in the Community, which gives students a chance to build unique community collaborations and provide oral healthcare services to patients in undeserved communities.
