Alum gives his life in Operation Enduring Freedom

Thirty-year-old Capt. Cory Jenkins, PA, ’07, and three other soldiers were killed in Afghanistan when their vehicle was attacked by an IED, or improvised explosive device. Cpt. Jenkins leaves behind a wife and a 2-month-old child. While in Afghanistan, he trained medics as a physician’s assistant. He had been deployed overseas only a few weeks, and although he was assigned to the Stryker Brigade out of Fort Lewis, Wash., he was from Mesa. In the neighborhood where he grew up and where his parents still live, dozens of American flags lined the street in his honor thanks to a local Boy Scout troop that pledged to put the flags up every morning and take them down each evening until his funeral.
