Posted: August 22, 2011On July 25, ATSU-ASHS Occupational Therapy (OT) program and ATSU-ASDOH dental students provided education at the East Valley Child Crisis Center. Rachel Diamant, Ph.D., M.S., OTR/L, B.C.P, associate professor, occupational therapy, ASHS, and Brandi Buchanan, OTD, OTR/L, assistant professor, occupational therapy, ASHS, organized a week-long life skills camp for the children at Child Crisis Center.
The camp was designed for OT students to teach children about a healthy diet, basic age-appropriate mealtime planning and cooking, and social and school-readiness behaviors. The ASDOH students were invited to instruct a session about brushing and keeping teeth healthy.
“This event was a great success and partnership with ASDOH and Occupational Therapy department,” said Yvette Thornton, R.D.H., B.S., participation coordinator for Dentistry in the Community, ASDOH.
