ATSU-ASHS receives donated PPE for PA students

Michelle DiBaise, DHSc, MPAS, DFAAPA, Physician Assistant (PA) department chair at A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS), recently received a donation of 370 pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE) for ATSU-ASHS’ PA students.
The donation came from a family friend, Andrew Singer, a product engineer at Acumed in Hillsboro, Oregon. Singer found himself with extra supplies to make face shields for healthcare providers and wanted to make sure they were put to use in an area of high need, so he reached out to Dr. DiBaise to see how he could help.
“Since the beginning of the pandemic, I have tried to come up with ways to help. When I learned that we (Acumed) were printing face shields, the DiBaise family was the first to come to my mind,” Singer said. “ATSU PA students are doing their share to help patients and the community. So, I made it a priority to get them PPE as soon as I could. It’s the least I could do for them, considering their hard work and dedication they give to our community.”
The face shields will be provided to PA students in the clinical year to offset shortages currently seen in emergency departments and urgent care centers.
