ATSU ignites diversity in the community with 2020 Diversity Festival

A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Diversity Enrichment in Education Committee and Diversity & Inclusion office hosted the 2020 Diversity Festival on Feb. 27, 2020.

This event drew students, faculty, and staff, and was open to the communities around the Mesa, Arizona, campus. The festival provided an opportunity for everyone in attendance to learn from each other while celebrating cultural differences.

Student groups from the Mesa, Arizona, campus hosted tables to provide information about their groups and cultures, and other tables hosted local vendors around the campus’ south lawn. Some groups provided ethnic foods to try, while other student groups participated in traditional performances throughout the night.

Bounce houses and ATSU’s mascot, Bucky, provided endless entertainment. An assortment of foods trucks were present to provide a variety of cultural flavors to attendees. The Mesa Fire Department was also on scene to engage with the community.

Shortly after the event kicked off, attendees were treated to ATSU’s Got Talent, which included performances from students, faculty, and staff. There were a variety of talents, including poetry and spoken word readings, a flute player, salsa and hula dancers, singers and musicians, a fashion show and a Bhangra dance. ATSU’s Got Talent was a huge success and had the crowd on their feet throughout the night, dancing along and cheering for the performers.

The 2020 Diversity Festival was the third iteration of the event.
