KCOM faculty published in Lipids
Posted: June 10, 2009Three members of the A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) Biochemistry Department, professor Richard Cenedella, Ph.D., assistant professor James Cox, Ph.D., and work study student Shawn Dowling, recently received acceptance of their manuscript into the journal Lipids.
The manuscript, entitled “Inhibition of fatty acid synthase by Orlistat accelerates gastric tumor cell apoptosis in culture and increases survival rates in gastric tumor bearing mice in vivo,” shows that the anti-obesity drug Orlistat, known as Alli, the only FDA approved over-the-counter weight loss product, decreases the development of gastrointestinal cancer in mice.
Lipids, published by Scientists for Scientists, was introduced in 1966 and is one of the premier journals published in the lipid field today. This monthly journal features full-length original research articles, short communications, methods papers, and review articles on timely topics.
