ATSU-KCOM students learn professionalism

The class of 2017 at A.T. Still University’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine was the first to take part in a new method of teaching professionalism for the college at orientation.

Students took part in a fun, yet serious role-playing session of The Brewsters, an interactive adventure in ethics for the health professions. Students participated electronically through iPADs, and were given scenarios that show how every decision you make in medical school can affect your career as a physician.

Professionalism is taught every year during orientation, but faculty say this method has been the most successful to date. First-year students will continue to use The Brewsters material throughout the year.
