Former ASU Foundation Director of Communications latest addition to growing university
MESA, Ariz. (Nov. 13, 2006) – At a time when A.T. Still University is opening Arizona’s third medical school and undergoing large-scale expansion and development projects in the East Valley, the University made another strategic acquisition to support its growing presence and impact in the state. Barbara Wood has been appointed as assistant vice president of communications and marketing. She will direct the strategic communications and marketing for ATSU’s Mesa campus. Wood, former director of communications at the Arizona State University (ASU) Foundation, brings 20 years of communications and marketing expertise in higher education, the nonprofit sector, publishing, and the financial industry to ATSU’s growing Communications & Marketing division.
A.T. Still University’s presence in the East Valley has grown rapidly since it opened the Arizona School of Health Sciences in 1995. ATSU completed construction on its Mesa campus, located at the intersections of Baseline & Recker Roads, in 2001.
In 2003, the University opened Arizona’s only dental school, the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, and unveiled plans for the 152-acre Arizona Health & Technology Park, which includes an Intergenerational Village and a YMCA facility.
Wood will be instrumental in leading the communications effort for the launch of ATSU’s new School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (SOMA), Arizona’s third medical school, and expanding ATSU’s dental presence in the state. SOMA’s first class of 100 students will begin in July 2007.
Wood earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and pursued graduate studies at the University of Kansas School of Business. She joined the ASU Foundation in 2002, leading the development communications effort and helping to secure more than $260 million of funding for ASU.
