1940s

Richard W. Anderson, D.O., FACGP, ’46, Dallas, Texas, has been recognized by Cambridge’s “Who’s Who” for showing dedication, leadership, and excellence in all aspects of osteopathic medicine. Dr. Anderson is a former member of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association Board of Directors and a current member of the ATSU Board of Trustees.

 

Life and adventures of C. L. Judd, D.O., Serece Judd Baker, daughter of the late Charles L. Judd, D.O., ’40, who practiced family medicine for 60 years in northeast Missouri, has written a book about her father, “Rural Missouri House Calls, the Life and Adventures of Dr. C. L. Judd.” It contains many pictures and stories, some in Dr. Judd’s own words and others from patients, nurses, and friends. 1950s

Frederick V. Hrachovina, D.O., ’56, Venice, Fla., has received honorary life membership in the Association of Osteopathic State Executive Directors (AOSED). Dr. Hrachovina was the first president of AOSED (1970). He appears in Marquis “Who’s Who in the World.”

1960s

Sherman M. Bannett, D.O., FAOCR, ’62, Cherry Hill, N.J., was recognized as a 2009 Beacon Award Winner by Kennedy Health System at its annual gala. He was chief of radiology at Kennedy-Cherry Hill for more than 20 years, a key leader in the development of magnetic imaging at Kennedy, and a Kennedy Board member from 1985 to 2001. He also served for many years as chief of staff, medical director, and interim chief at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine’s department of radiology. He retired from Kennedy in 2002.

Henry D. Petry, D.O., FACOFP, ’67, Carl Junction, Mo., has received the Distinguished Service Award, the most prestigious award of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

David M. Beyer, D.O., ’68, Fort Worth, Texas, has received the Community Service Award from the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.

Robert G. Maul, D.O., FACOFP, ’69, Lubbock, Texas, has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association. It is the highest honor the association can bestow.

1970s

Stanley E. Grogg, D.O., ’71, Tulsa, Okla., has been named interim president of the Okla- homa State University (OSU) Center for Health Sciences. OSU will conduct a national search for the position. Dr. Grogg is medical director of clinicalGrogg, Stanley research, a professor of pediatrics at OSU College of Osteopathic Medicine, and former director of the Osteopathic Medical Education Consortium of Oklahoma. He is also a former board member and past president of the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association.

Bruce D. Dubin, D.O., J.D., FACOI, ’73, Keller, Texas, vice dean of the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, has been appointed interim dean. In addition, in June Dr. Dubin received the Meritorious Service Award from the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.

Michael K. Murphy, D.O., FACOFP, ’73, Hattiesburg, Miss., has been re-elected to the American Osteopathic Association Board of Trustees. Dr. Murphy is the founding dean of the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Bruce P. Bates, D.O., FACOFP, ’74, Biddeford, Maine, founding chair, department of geriatrics at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM), has been appointed interim dean of UNECOM.

Hugh A. Schuetz, D.O., ’74, St. James, Mo., received the District Award from the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

Lynne M. Bynum, wife of Carl G. Bynum, D.O., M.P.H., ’75, St. Louis, Mo., was elected president for 2009-10 of the Auxiliary to the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

ATSU-KCOM Dean Philip C. Slocum, D.O., ’76, co-authored the article “Osteopathic clinical training in three universities,” which was published in the June 2009 issue of Academic Medicine. He was appointed to the editorial board of the American Journal of Medicine earlier this year.

Rebecca Brink, wife of Bruce C. Brink Jr., D.O., FACOFP, ’77, Princeton, Ind., has been elected recording secretary of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Advocates for 2009-10.

Stephen M. Forsythe, D.O., ’78, Desloge, Mo., has received the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Medallion Award.

1980s

R. W. Jackson, D.O., ’81, Macon, Mo., president of Premier Specialty Network, was a contributing author to an article published online at Springer Link. The article is entitled “Eggshell membrane in the treatment of pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis of the knee: a randomized, multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study.” The article may be found on iconnect at http://iconnect.atsu.edu.

Ross, KenKenneth E. Ross, D.O., ’81, Chesterfield, Mo., KCOM regional dean, has received the 2009 Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Physician of the Year Award.

Ruth E. Tucker, wife of Mark A. Tucker, D.O., ’81, Center, Mo., was installed as treasurer for 2009-10 of the Auxiliary to the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

Jeffrey L. Dryden, D.O., FACOI, ’82, West Plains, Mo., was elected vice dryden, jeffpresident of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons House of Delegates during the association’s convention held April 30-May 3.

Lovins, DarrellD. E. Lovins, D.O., M.P.H., ’83, Hattisburg, Miss., has been named associate dean, clinical sciences at the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Hattisburg. Dr. Lovins retired as a captain from the United States Navy after serving for more than 26 years.

Pamela K. Isaacs, D.O., ’86, Greenwood Village, Colo., has been awarded the distinct honor of Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Radiology.

William S. Hughes, D.O., ’87, Joplin, Mo., a family physician, serves as director of student medical education for ATSU-KCOM, a position he has held for three years. In addition, last fall Dr. Hughes was elected to the Kirksville Osteopathic Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Brent A. Jacobus, D.O., ’87, Crown Point, Ind., received the 2008 Volunteer Service Award, which was given by former President George W. Bush.

Sutton, John, and guests1989 KCOM class reunion, John R. Sutton, D.O., ’89, Carson City, Nev., president of the 1989 KCOM class, planned and hosted a reunion for his classmates July 2-5 in the Carson City/Lake Tahoe, Nev., area. Events included a paddle wheel boat tour of Lake Tahoe.

1990s

David Riesbeck, husband of Susan M. Moore-Riesbeck, D.O., ’90, Granger, Ind., has been named treasurer of the Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons Advocates for 2009-10.

Robert P. Schneider, D.O., ’91, Kirksville, has joined the ATSU-KCOM faculty as an assistant professor, OMM/family medicine.

J. Matthew Halverson, D.O., ’92, Newport News, Va., has been named to the Halverson, Mattlist of “Top Docs” by Hampton Roads Magazine in its annual “Top Docs” issue, which was published in July/August 2009. Dr. Halverson has a family practice in Newport News.

Michael J. Sampson, D.O., ’92, Suwanee, Ga., has joined the faculty of the Georgia Campus of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He serves as associate professor of family medicine and sports medicine and director of primary care skills and family medicine clerkship.

He also serves as assistant team physician for AFL Georgia Force and local high school and college teams. In addition, he has become a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) and was reappointed to the AOASM Board of Directors for a second term. Dr. Sampson also is one of the two ringside physicians for World Wrestling Entertainment, working with and traveling nationally and internationally with RAW, Smackdown, and ECW brands.

Victoria A. Damba, D.O., ’97, Farmington, Mo., was elected 1st vice-president for 2009-10 of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

Katherine R. Lichtenberg, D.O., M.P.H., FAAFP, ’97, Kirkwood, Mo., received the District Award from the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons. She is a member of the St. Louis Osteopathic District Association.

Lora L. Davis, M.S., DPT, ACCE, ’98 and ’09, Mesa, Ariz., a member of the physical therapy department faculty at ATSU-ASHS, graduated in August with her transitional doctorate.

Leslee J. Cochran Oakeson, M.S., OT, ’98, Chandler, Ariz., and her husband, Dave, are parents of Caitlin Elizabeth, born April 26.

Hiroya Morita, D.O., ’99, Chigasaki, Kanagawa, Japan, has published a book on osteopathic medicine, “Osteopathy — A Medicine From Now On.” It tells of her life as a KCOM student, osteopathic medicine in the United States, and osteopathy in Japan from now on. Dr. Morita is president of the Atlas College of Osteopathy in Chigasaki.

2000s

Christopher J. Wolf, D.O., ’04, Columbia, Mo., has received the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons President’s Award.

DeGooyer, BrettBrett R. DeGooyer, D.O., ’05, Yakima, Wash., has accepted the position of assistant professor of osteopathic principles and practices at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.

Michael P. Halasy, M.S., PA-C, ’05, Rochester, Minn., has been appointed to the Mayo Clinic Health Policy Center. He is the only PA who has served.

Priscilla Tu, D.O., ’05, Durham, N.C., is completing a fellowship at Duke University and has accepted a position practicing sports medicine and family medicine as faculty at Duke.

Tawna C. Wilkinson, D.P.T., ’05, Chandler, Ariz., has received pediatric specialty certification from the American Physical Therapy Association after passing a comprehensive national examination. She is an academic coordinator for clinical education and assistant professor, physical therapy, at ATSU-ASHS.

Cody J. Hawkes, D.O., ’07, Laveen, Ariz., and his wife, Melanie, are the Hawkes, Cody and familyparents of a daughter, Bailey, born earlier this year. Dr. and Mrs. Hawkes are shown with Bailey and their three other children, Dylan, Sydney, and Madison.

Bethany R. Rogers, M.S., LAT, ATC, ’07, Lenexa, Kan., works for the Student Athlete Foundation of Kansas, which was founded in response to a lack of athletic trainers in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties. She works with the inner city Kansas City, Kan., public schools to provide athletic trainers for their five high schools at no cost. Many of the students she and her colleagues see lack health insurance and basic healthcare. Trainers provide low-cost PPEs and free injury clinics during football season, with doctors providing injury evaluations.

Kirsten E. Vesey, Au.D., ’07, Twentynine Palms, Calif., is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy stationed at Marine Corp Air Ground Combat Training Center in Twentynine Palms. She is the hearing conservation program manager and clinical audiologist for the base region. Dr. Vesey is vice president of the Military Audiology Association and the education chair, working on the second annual joint defense Veterans Audiology Conference.

Jonathan L. Cleaver, D.O., ’08, Holts Summit, Mo., and his wife, Tabitha, are the parents of a son, Brighton Harris, born May 5. Grandparents include Lloyd J. Cleaver, D.O., ’76, and his wife, of Kirksville.

Lynda T. Konecny, D.H.Ed., ’08, Kirksville, has been appointed an assistant professor in the doctor of health education program at ATSU’s School of Health Management. She is one of the school’s first full-time faculty members.

Ian A. McLeod, M.S., PA-C, ATC, ’08, Tempe, Ariz., was a presenter at the Japan Athletic Trainers’ Organization meeting held in Tokyo.

Brad D. Murphree, Au.D., ’08, Decatur, Ala., was featured in an article entitled “All in the Family,” which appeared in the July/August 2009 issue of Audiology Today. He is a member of what is believed to be the only three-generational family of audiologists currently practicing in the United States

Amanda R. Parsley, M.S., ATC, LAP, ’08, Sherman, Texas, has accepted the position of head athletic trainer at Austin College in Sherman.

Jonathan D. Richey, D.O., M.H.A., ’08, Holly, Mich., began a residency in dermatology in July at Botsford General Hospital in Pontiac, Mich.

Jacqueline M. Samuelson, M.S., PA-C, ’08, Mankato, Minn., has established an award at ATSU to inspire other alumni to give to the University.

The ASDOH alumni chapter recently elected Isaac R. Navarro, D.M.D., ’08, Visalia, Calif., and Charmaine G. Ng, D.M.D., ’09, Higley, Ariz., to its board. They join current board members Ingrid Prikryl, D.M.D., ’07, Windsor, Maine; DezBaa A. Damon, D.M.D., ’07, Bethel, Alaska; Lisa M. Anderson, D.M.D., ’08, Scottsdale, Ariz.; and Timothy W. Oh, D.M.D., ’08, Ellsworth, Maine.

B. DavisBrenden J. Davis, D.M.D., M.P.H., ’09, Queen Creek, Ariz., is the dental director of a new community dental clinic in Ellensburg, Wash. The clinic will be associated with Community Health of Central Washington and will serve low-income, migrant, and homeless populations in Washington’s Kittitas County. According to Dr. Davis, CHCW CEO Michael Maples selected him be- cause his CV was “head and shoulders” above other applicants, something Dr. Davis attributes to his experience with ASDOH and SHM.

Erik P. Gulbrandsen, D.O., ’09, Carbondale, Ill., and his wife, Annalisa, are Gulbrandsen, Erik, babythe parents of a son, Eli, who was born May 31.
