Creative Commons: research data management tool

CreativeCommons.org allows you to share your work, while specifying what others can do with it. The site offers free copyright licenses for you to use on a variety of platforms. A Creative Commons license is an easy to use tool, which protects your work from being reused without giving credit to you.

To create a custom Creative Commons license, start with their license creation wizard. You will select which license features you want, if the license will be international, add metadata to ensure attribution, and custom code to embed wherever you share your content. The license features will state to others what they can do, such as re-use, modify, or share with others. You can also allow for use either for educational use only or commercial use. Once a license is applied to the content, it may not be revoked, even if distribution is stopped.

If you need assistance getting started or following best practices, contact the library or visit our new data services guide. The data services guide provides resources and helpful information on all aspects of the data life cycle.
