Founder’s Day reaches new heights on Arizona campus

The mood was festive and the competitive spirit high when a record crowd of more than 500 turned out for the 2009 Arizona Campus Founder’s Day celebration in November. Students, faculty, and staff, along with their friends and families, enjoyed free music, games, snow cones, and cotton candy followed by a barbecue lunch served on the back patio.

The day’s featured event was a dodgeball tournament with brackets for students and for staff. Winning the staff bracket was the ITS team Lambda Lambda Lambda, including Scott Levy, Ryan Yontanza, Philip Williams, Adam Ruiz, Kelly Richardson, and Nick Phrasavath. The student champions were the Stanky Leggers, made up of ASHS class of 2012 physical therapy students Aurora Fry, Saeed Monterrey, Fred Aboulhosn, Andrew Jarzabek, Zach Hall, and Atif Ahmed.

Children enjoyed a game area with inflatable obstacle courses and jump houses, face painting, and an A.T. Still scavenger hunt. Fry bread, Indian tacos, and jewelry were available for sale from the National Center for American Indian Health Professions (NCAIHP).

The Audiology Club sold ear molds for its annual fundraiser, and the ASDOH chapter of the American Student Dental Association sold T-shirts and sweatshirts.

In conjunction with Founder’s Day, the ASHS and ASDOH alumni boards both held meetings. ASHS also held its inaugural Student Research Symposium featuring keynote speaker Pat McKeon, Ph.D., ATC, ’01, assistant professor in the department of rehabilitation sciences at the University of Kentucky, and closing remarks with ATSU President Jack Magruder.
