Human movement alumnus helps future Olympians

Bill Ito, HM ’12, just returned from a trip as a member of the medical staff team for the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Outdoor Track and Field Championships held in Moscow, Russia, Aug. 10-19. The IAAF is the governing body of International Track and Field, and athletes at this competition are elite athletes preparing for the Olympic Games. The medical staff included athletic trainers, massage therapists, chiropractors, and doctors that provided medical support for USA’s top track and field athletes.
“All aspects of the athlete’s health and well-being fell under our responsibility,” said Ito, who is an athletic trainer at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif. “Our medical staff provided medical supervision and services to approximately 150 athletes. We provided services as a team performing first aid, manual therapy, stretching, massage, and soft-tissue techniques with the athletes.”
“It was an amazing experience, lots of hard work, and a tremendous opportunity to work with so many different healthcare practitioners and world class athletes,” said Ito. He added that “There is great promise for these athletes as they prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. It is my hope and goal to have a chance to work on the medical staff for these Olympic Games.”
