Jack Magruder named acting president of ATSU

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. (Feb. 11, 2008 ) – A.T. Still University President James J. McGovern, Ph.D., requested and was granted a medical leave of absence by the Board of Trustees at its meeting in Mesa, Ariz., on Saturday. The Board asked Jack Magruder, Ed.D., president emeritus of Truman State University and member of ATSU’s Board of Trustees, to assume the role of Acting President during Dr. McGovern’s leave. Dr. Magruder has resigned his position on ATSU’s board to take on this responsibility.

ATSU’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Stephen A. Kardos, D.O., said the transition would be seamless, reinforcing that “ATSU is a healthy and vibrant institution. Our commitment to students and our educational mission is stronger than ever. We have excellent leadership at all levels of our University.”

Dr. Magruder became the thirteenth president of Truman State University in 1994 after serving 22 years as a Truman faculty member. Dr. Magruder is a past Board of Trustee for The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association. He is the past president for the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges, Council on Public Higher Education for Missouri, and Board of Directors of the Truman State University Foundation. Dr. Magruder is the past chair for the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education Committee on Transfer and Articulation and is the chair for the Blue Ribbon Panel for Accountability, Credibility, and Efficiency for the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. He is also past president and continuing member of the Science Teachers of Missouri.

Dr. Magruder will begin his duties as ATSU’s Acting President February 14.
