Fifth annual ‘Move for Mason’ event goes virtual

The fifth annual “Move for Mason” fundraiser and yoga session looked a little different this year. For the past four years, the event has taken place on A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Mesa, Arizona, campus lawn.

This year, amid the coronavirus pandemic, it took place through a Zoom call. Students, faculty, and staff participated in a virtual yoga session led by Tania Shearon, MOT, CHT, PYT-C, assistant professor at ATSU’s Arizona School of Health Sciences (ATSU-ASHS).

“Move for Mason” is the Mason Vig scholarship program’s final fundraising event of the year. The scholarship was established to celebrate and honor Vig, a student with ATSU-ASHS’ Doctor of Physical Therapy program who passed away in 2012.

“The Mason Vig scholarship is presented each year to a second-year physical therapy student who exemplifies a ’pay it forward‘ mentality,” said Carly Roberts, DPT ’21, co-chair of “Move for Mason” projects. “The same mentality Mason had.”

Other scholarship fundraisers took place throughout the year. From bake sales and selling cotton candy during Founder’s Day, to a basketball tournament, all money raised went directly to the scholarship fund. The “Move for Mason” yoga session also included a virtual raffle, raising nearly $1,500.
