Eight-year reaccreditation awarded to ATSU-ASHS Entry Level Doctor of Audiology program

In March 2020, A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences’ (ATSU-ASHS) Entry Level Doctor of Audiology program received notification from the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of its reaccreditation for the next eight years.

Accreditation is awarded for five- or eight-year cycles, and for the second time, ATSU-ASHS’ Audiology program has been awarded maximum reaccreditation. The program must undergo an annual review in order to maintain this accreditation, and the department must complete a full reaccreditation process in order to be considered and approved for future years.

Reaccreditation documentation is an in-depth process for audiology faculty and staff, who work tirelessly to collect and submit essential information before the actual site visit. The processes to maintain accreditation and engage in continuous assessment and improvement of the curriculum and overall program ensure audiology faculty work closely together to make impactful changes on an ongoing basis.

“Submitting documentation for reaccreditation and preparing for a site visit relies on the dedication of the audiology faculty and staff,” Dr. Parent-Buck, AuD, department chair and professor, said. “During the preparation phase and actual site visit, the department received valuable support from University administration and support services to help the site visit team understand what ATSU is all about and see the strengths of the Audiology program.”

Within its previous accreditation cycle, Audiology proudly opened the doors to ATSU’s Audiology Foundation of America (AFA) Balance & Hearing Institute in Mesa, Arizona.

“During our last cycle, we added our AFA Balance & Hearing Institute,” Dr. Parent-Buck said.

“The clinic is a unique private practice model with an emphasis on providing a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for patients with hearing and balance disorders. Many ATSU Doctor of Audiology students complete clinical rotations at the AFA Balance & Hearing Institute and benefit from the opportunity to enhance their clinical and business skills and knowledge, while working closely with expert faculty who also teach many of the program’s courses.”

The entry-level Doctoral (AuD) Education program in audiology at A.T. Still University-Arizona School of Health Sciences is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, phone 800.498.2071 or 301.296.5700.
