Romer speaks at Go Red for Women luncheon

Maureen Romer, D.D.S., M.P.A.

Maureen Romer, D.D.S., M.P.A., director of special care dentistry, AEGD program co-director, and associate professor, ASDOH, was a presenter at the 6th Annual 2010 Phoenix American Heart Association Go Red for Women Luncheon on May 14 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. Dr. Romer was invited to present at the workshop, “Heart Healthy from Head to Toe,” by Fran Roberts, Ph.D., R.N, vice president of strategic business alliances for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix and chairperson for the Go Red Campaign in Phoenix. Dr. Romer’s presentation focused on the relationship between oral health and cardiac health.

The day-long Go Red for Women event featured educational sessions, vendor expos, and health screenings. Go Red for Women is a national initiative of the American Heart Association formed to dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women and to empower women to take care of their heart health. More than 4,500 women die from heart disease each year in Arizona alone.

“It was great being part of an event that empowers women to take action against heart disease and make heart disease prevention a part of their life,” said Dr. Romer.
