Society of American Indian Dentists student chapter met

On Friday, Sept. 2, the Society of American Indian Dentists (SAID) student chapter of ATSU’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) met to discuss ways the group can support recruitment efforts of future American Indian/Alaskan Native applicants.

The discussion, led by ATSU-ASDOH SAID President Francisco Mascarenas, D3, gave members the opportunity to share ideas to better collaborate with the National Center for American Indian Health Professions at ATSU. Goals identified by the group included ways to engage prospective applicants and ideas for future Mesa campus SAID events.

In attendance were SAID faculty adviser and ATSU-ASDOH Assistant Dean of American Indian Affairs George Blue Spruce, DDS, MPH; ATSU-ASDOH Dean Jack Dillenberg, DDS, MPH; and ATSU-ASDOH Vice Dean Wayne Cottam, DMD, MS.

SAID is a national, non-profit organization comprised of oral health professionals and students dedicated to promoting and improving the oral health of the American Indian/Alaskan Native community and providing advocacy for the American Indian/Alaskan Native dental professionals across the US.
