Spring 2019 Mesa campus library update

Thank you to A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) University Student Association, which purchased several new items for our AZ campus library: camping chairs, yoga ball chairs, and white boards. Enjoy the fresh air while studying and use one of our camp chairs. If you prefer to stay inside, strengthen your core with the new yoga ball chairs. Enhance group work with the new rolling white board, or take notes with the table-sized whiteboards.

The spring was active with several faculty workshops, including instruction for our Digital Measures citation entry. For student engagement, we had students color ornaments in December, and held a caption contest in February in conjunction with our Kirksville campus. For National Library Week in April, we aired a TV promo on library staff and several ATSU Facebook entries.

Our staff has been busy as well. Adrienne Brodie, MLS, ATSU-Arizona School of Health Sciences and ATSU-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona support librarian, is the University Staff Council Chair in 2019. She also completed the Research DataManagement 102: Beyond Research Data Management for Biomedical & HealthSciences Librarians course from the National Library of Medicine. The major aim of this course was to provide an introduction to the support of data science and open science with the goal of developing and implementing or enhancing data science training and services at our institution. The skills and information learned will be incorporated into the library’s current data services.

Kirsty Gaither, MA, MLIS, director of the educational technology development center, finished her Arizona Spark Tank grant by hosting a three-day Elite Train the Trainer event in December. She presented with Brittany Williams, MS, instructional designer, and Cailee Welch Bacon, PhD, ATC, associate professor of athletic training, at the 2019 Qualtrics X4 conference in March on their main stage.

Hal Bright, MLS, AHIP, university library director, presented his co-authored paper with Gaither at the Medical Library Association conference in May 2019 on library information discovery.

Good luck to our graduating students and we hope all staff and students enjoy the summer.
