Still OPTI moved to initial accreditation as ACGME sponsoring institution

At the August 21, 2015, meeting of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Institutional Review Committee (IRC), action was taken to move Still OPTI from institutional pre-accreditation status to initial accreditation as an institutional sponsor in the single accreditation system for GME.  This means individual programs that submit program applications to ACGME with Still OPTI serving as their institutional sponsor and demonstrate substantial compliance with ACGME specialty-specific program and common requirements can also achieve initial accreditation by  ACGME.

Still OPTI is a consortium for graduate medical education that includes in its membership ATSU’s Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine (ATSU-KCOM) and School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), as well as teaching hospitals and community health centers across the nation. Under the memorandum of understanding between the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and ACGME, all AOA-accredited institutions and programs achieve pre-accreditation status once their application is uploaded into the ACGME Accreditation Data System. It is only after careful review of the application and its accompanying documents that an institution can receive initial accreditation from the review committee.

Still OPTI’s new accreditation status was made effective as of July 1, 2015, and remains in effect for two years. Programs that come under the institutional sponsorship of Still OPTI and apply within the academic year could receive initial accreditation as early as July 1, 2016.

Still OPTI is also supporting current members and welcomes new partners to infuse, kindle, and cultivate individual programs through the Osteopathic Recognition distinction in ACGME.  Applications assistance, EBM resources, and professional development are just some of the resources offered.
