Still Spotlight: Kelly Boyce, AT, ATC, class of 2016

Soon-to-be ATSU-ASHS graduate Kelly Boyce has her athletic training career path set. She has already started her new position as minor league athletic trainer for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Growing up in Poplar Grove, Illinois, Boyce was a gymnast for 10 years and her coach was an athletic trainer. “I have been an athlete all my life and love the team environment,” says Boyce. Boyce chose ATSU’s athletic training program, housed within the Department of Interdisciplinary Health Sciences, with the assistance of her undergraduate professors to find accredited programs and because of her personal desire to have a great clinical experience and a curriculum that incorporated whole person healthcare. For the past two years, Boyce has been an assistant athletic trainer at Mesa Community College. “I absolutely loved my time there, and am excited to continue on in my career.” As a minor league athletic trainer for the Diamondbacks, Boyce will be working at Salt River Fields with the rookie ball team for the 2016 season. “I am beyond thrilled to begin my journey with this outstanding organization,” says Boyce. When Boyce is not working or studying, she spends time with her miniature dachshund, Brynlee, that Boyce says “steals a lot of my attention. She’s 11 pounds of pure happiness.” Boyce also acknowledges that she could not be where she is today without the support of family and friends. “They have allowed me to chase my dreams, especially so far from home.”
