Students educate youngsters through Serves and Smiles

On March 2, ATSU-ASDOH sent a student taskforce to Desert Garden Elementary school in Glendale, Ariz.  Their mission: educating schoolchildren on the importance of oral healthcare through Serves and Smiles.

Serves and Smiles is one of several community service projects that comprise ATSU-ASDOH’s Dentistry in the Community program.

To motivate the young participants, D2 students incorporated fitness regimes into the Serves and Smiles camp.

Various stations were established and each area had a fitness or oral health conjecture.  Children spent 15 minutes at each station learning how to maintain healthy habits.

Events like Serves and Smiles directly align with the mission of Dentistry in the Community in teaching children and adults preventive oral healthcare methods.

Kudos to D2 ATSU-ASDOH students Daniel Areepong , Joshua Badall, AJ Brungo, Ross Forrester, Casey Haught, Celine Javanni, Mitchell Ponsford, Masha Raykhman, Kevin To, Christopher Trippel, Milen Vitanov and Charles Woodruff who led the Serves and Smiles event!

Dentistry in the Community is specially designed for ATSU-ASDOH students and is an integral part of their curriculum.  Annually, the program partners with more than 60 community organizations to reach the dentally underserved.
