ATSU hosts 25th annual NEMO Triathlon

On your mark, get set, go!

On September 13, hundreds of athletes splashed into the waters of Forest Lake at Thousand Hills State Park in Kirksville to kick off the 25th anniversary of the Northeast Missouri (NEMO) Triathlon, organized by A.T. Still University.

Participants began checking in for the event at 6:30 a.m. on race day, and the triathlon began at 8 a.m. Approximately 190 participants competed individually or as part of a team in the .75-mile swim, 18-mile bike ride, and 5-mile race to the finish line.

Joe Company, from Columbia, Mo., was the fastest overall male, completing the race with a time of 1:28:09. The fastest overall female was Kristin Moore, from St. Charles, Mo., who finished in 1:37:40.

Since the inaugural race in 1985, more than 40,000 people have visited Kirksville to compete in the triathlon. For more race results, visit www.nemotriathlon.org, and become a fan of the NEMO Triathlon on Facebook to connect with race participants. See the winter issue of Still Magazine to see a photo and read news about staff member Dan Martin receiving recognition for his 25-year role in the NEMO Triathlon. The NEMO Triathlon is one of the longest running events sanctioned by USA Triathlon, the governing agency for the sport.
