Women for ATSU volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Dream Center

Sometimes it only takes a little help to make a big difference in someone’s life.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society, known for its efforts to feed, clothe, house, and heal, has set out to journey with guests on the road to fundamental changes that lead them out of poverty.

The Dream Center is an activity center built into the family dining room for children attending St. Vincent de Paul’s family evening meal that provides a designated space for children to engage in enriching activities like homework assistance, art, crafts, tutoring, reading, and science experiments.

In April, members of A.T. Still University’s (ATSU) Women for ATSU volunteered serving dinner and assisting at the Dream Center, helping school-age children with homework.

Hannah Sobhi, the President of Women for ATSU, is no stranger to St. Vincent de Paul or the Dream Center. Her family has helped pack food boxes and distribute them to the homeless members of the community. Sobhi was accompanied by Women for ATSU members Maureen Perry, DDS, MPA, MAEd, Monica Nedad, RDH, MEd, DHEd, Patricia Bere, MBA, as well as many other thoughtful volunteers.

“It was a great team building experience for our group. We got to go and help the community, which is exactly what ATSU is all about. It just felt really good,” said Sobhi.

In the Dream Center, volunteers are needed to tutor or just play games with children. A piano is also available for lessons if an individual is able to provide lessons.
