Student Affairs provides ‘Fuel For Finals’ on ATSU Missouri campus

Student Affairs was doing its part this week to fuel A.T. Still University (ATSU) students ahead of finals, providing a spread of breakfast foods, beverages, and snacks each morning.

Thom Van Vleck, MA, LPC, behavioral health & wellness coordinator, said the tradition began with providing fruit for students. The menu has expanded since, adding breakfast cereals, salty snacks, and more.

Van Vleck said the “Fuel For Finals” not only helps keep stomachs full and spirits high, but also serves as a reminder to students that he and Sarah Thomas, MSW, LCSW, are there to help.

“It’s just a way we can kind of meet and greet the students,” he said. “You get to know a lot of them, and you can tell when they’re having a bad day. You can reach out to them by name.”

The most popular item on the spread? Bananas, Van Vleck said, noting students smartly choose the portable fruit with its own natural packaging.
